Every year, registered student organizations have the opportunity to be recognized for their contributions to the campus community through the annual Royal Flame Awards ceremony. This spring, a number of organizations received awards acknowledging their creative programming and innovative ideas. PantherHackers, a new student organization, received the award for Outstanding Small-Scale Campus Program, for their Hack-a-thon event, which emphasized innovative solutions to societal problems. The Greatest Minds Society received the award for Outstanding Large-Scale Campus Program for their Symposium on Race, Urban Culture and Campus Diversity, which brought together groups across campus to discuss these pressing issues. The Student Organization of the Year Award was given to La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated. This organization is a three time consecutive recipient of Undergraduate Chapter of the Year for their national organization and was recognized in 2015 with the Hosea Williams Award for Community Service. They have been actively involved in the local community logging over 850 service hours working with organizations, such as Atlanta Pet Rescue and Adoption, Latino Youth Leadership Conference and Special Olympics. They collaborated with other student organizations to provide programs on fiscal responsibility and immigration issues. They also organized the large scale program, Salsita for You, an event that hosted Ivan Shammas, general manager for Telemundo. While these men have been active in this organization, they have also held leadership roles in a number of other organizations on campus, thus further contributing the success of the campus community. These are just a few examples of some of the many exemplary organizations on campus.

Do you think your organization has what it takes to be recognized next spring? As you plan programs and events this year, consider taking photographs and keeping detailed notes about the event. Then, when nominations open in the spring, take time to nominate your organization for one of the Royal Flame Awards.
